Chim Chim Cher-ee
So the iconic Battersea Power Station chimneys will soon be fibreglass or some such fakery? But with a real pig flying over. Actually the original Pink Floyd image was itself a fake, as the balloon had gone up, up and away awol during the photoshoot, and so a composite image has to be put together from images of the power station and the tethered pig balloon.
Glad to know that at last the structure is getting developed. A big shame though that they left it so long that the chimneys are now too decrepit to retain, hence the fake ones that will be installed instead. Also a shame that the building won’t be completely open to the public, just as that other retrofitted power station Tate Modern has been for nearly a decade and a half already. And that only has the one chimney.
Always a shame that the developers never imagine clever enough ways to reuse the to-be-demolished material. Just as with the Berlin Wall, I am sure there would be those willing to pay for a small part of British industrial/architectural heritage?
