one-off at the wrist

Hector Umbra

Hector Umbra combines sci-fi, occult, noir and clubland influences in one explosive narrative. With a visual style reminiscent of Mike Mignola. The colour palette is wonderful. Tis a shame that this type of gritty and sophisticated graphic novel doesn’t get made into Hollywood blockbusters instead of the usual wham bam thank you mam type stupid hero fare.

For every Hellboy there are several glossy Super/Spider/Bat/Iron/X etc Mans. All the really interesting narratives seem to spend years in development hell or not considered at all [Sin City, Hellblazer, Sandman, Preacher, The Dark Tower – all series with rich back stories].
