DAMN FINE COFFEE!
Twin Peaks, a series that I sit down and watch all the way through once every couple of years, is back! At least that is, the long awaited deleted scenes that were held up in financial red tape for decades; now to be released on a complete box set.
To be honest, I never got around to watching the filmic Fire Walk With Me a prequel/cut down version of the story, so I am in two minds as to whether I’ll want to view these ‘fill in’ parts? The big problem is knowing that the series storyline was ‘rushed’ by studio execs, over the protests of the film makers, so one might feel these ‘extras’ constitute the intended structure.
However in my experience any ‘insights’ or behind the scenes ‘making of’ type exposures always seem [whilst perhaps very interesting] to detract from the mystery of the original narrative [at the very least the position of the special effects are highlighted].
Perhaps it is also just a matter of time, but I have likewise found that movies you have watched countless times that suddenly get a Director’s Cut version then play somewhat jarringly. Simply you get more or less than you expect at certain junctures and this disrupts the narrative flow you already have hardwired.
