one-off at the wrist

One always thinks of village fêtes when one thinks about giant vegetables? And the ensuing double entrées. Or my favourite Woody Allen movie Sleeper with its super-sized fruit.

Now of course we have purple cauliflowers, square tomatoes, pentagonal oranges, straight bananas etc. One wonders what wonders science will come up with to meet the hunger pains of the projected 9-10 billion souls on the planet come 2050. No end of giant foodstuffs seem able to keep pace with that population explosion? Start queuing for the Soylent Green.

Though apparently but for the large expanses of land given over to growing corn to feed beef cows [also a huge contributor to greenhouse gasses – parp, methane] there would be plenty enough space to grow food for even the projected 10 billion.  Farmageddon, the true cost of cheap meat.
