Thunder Perfect Mind

I found this advert [directed by Ridley Scott’s daughter] very interesting. Great visuals, slightly surreal ‘non-narrative’. jazzy score, seeming Beat style poetry [though in fact a 2nd century Gnostic text!] unfortunately it is only selling a perfume. Don’t you just hate it when the cult of cool is used to push product on you? This is probably why so many adverts hold off on displaying the actual merchandise until the narrative weave has been spun.

The message of course is that you can buy into the ‘In Crowd’ lifestyle by wearing the scent, driving the car, drinking the beverage, wearing the clothes, listening to the music – whatever the product placement happens to be …
