Split Screen

The great Michel Gondry. One of my favourite music video directors

Of course the main use of the split screen technique [though digital technology allows a different methodology] has been to enable the same actor to be present in the same scene/frame at the same time as his doppelgänger [ie as either a ‘twin’ or as the same character in a different time frame].

Much more interesting to my mind is to allow different but connected narrative streams to communicate with each other via a literally split screen.
